Reports that one of its officers was killed by a hacksaw during a fight with criminals Tuesday at the Rimi market area have been denied by the Kano State Police Command.
In a voice note which was made available to journalists, the command’s public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated that while the command’s troops were called in to put an end to the turmoil, one of them suffered injuries but wasn’t killed by a hacksaw as had been claimed.
A policeman was hacked to death during the altercation, according to report by witnesses who disclosed this on Saturday.
The attack on the police officer occurred during the thugs’ clash at the Rimi market on July 4 at around 11 am, according to the police spokesman, but he was treated at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and later discharged.
