Pope Francis in Critical Condition After Breathing Crisis

Pope Francis’s health has worsened over the past 24 hours, with the Vatican confirming that he suffered a “prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis” and required blood transfusions. The 88-year-old pontiff, who has been battling double pneumonia, also needed a high flow of oxygen to assist with breathing.

Despite the setback, the Vatican assured that Francis remains alert and has spent the day in a chair, though he is reportedly more unwell than the previous day. The pope was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties. While doctors had earlier stated there was no immediate threat to his life, his condition has now been classified as critical.

Medical tests revealed a low platelet count, leading to blood transfusions to address anemia-related concerns. While his health remains fragile, Vatican officials have not indicated any immediate plans for extraordinary measures regarding his leadership.
