The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has announced that petrol from the refurbished Port Harcourt Refinery will sell for ₦1,030 per litre. PETROAN spokesman Joseph Obele confirmed the price in a statement on Thursday, citing communication from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Obele emphasized that the old Port Harcourt refinery is fully operational, currently running at 70% capacity, with plans to increase to 90%. He refuted claims that the facility is non-functional, highlighting a recent inspection by NNPC officials and the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, which confirmed ongoing production.
PETROAN has urged NNPC Retail to reduce petrol prices further, especially during the festive season, to ease financial pressure on Nigerians. The association also supports plans for the privatization of government-owned refineries, aiming for transparent management by capable private firms.
