The Police Service Commission (PSC) has made significant disciplinary decisions, including the dismissal of three senior police officers due to misconduct and abuse of office. Additionally, nine other officers, including a Commissioner of Police, faced a reduction in their ranks.
These decisions were reached during the 21st Plenary Meeting of the Commission, which was presided over by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, representing the chairman, Dr. Solomon Arase. Dr. Arase, while joining the plenary via Zoom, expressed his appreciation to the Members for their diligent handling of disciplinary matters.
He reiterated his commitment to not impeding the career progression of any officer, emphasizing that the decisions made were in line with that principle. Among the approved actions were the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner and the directive to refund any wrongfully paid entitlements.
The Commission also acknowledged the bravery of the late Inspector Ifeanyi Oroke and posthumously promoted him to the rank of ASP 11. Furthermore, Inspector Augustina Oko, who had been dismissed, was reinstated from the date of her dismissal.
In addition to the dismissals and promotions, the Commission imposed severe reprimands on 16 officers, reprimands on 18 officers, and issued letters of warning to two others. The Commission previously approved the adjustment of the promotion date for Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Woke Iheanyi Kingsley and the reinstatement of CSP Anaele Samuel Onuoha, in compliance with a court judgment.
The 21st Plenary Meeting of the Commission will reconvene on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023.
