The charts, spanning from November 1, 2022, to October 31, 2023, reveal another significant achievement for Afrobeats sensation Rema. The remix of his popular single, “Calm Down,” featuring Selena Gomez, has secured the 12th position as the most streamed song globally on Apple Music.
This accomplishment marks a historic moment, establishing “Calm Down” as the highest-ranking entry for an African song in the chart’s history. The statistics were unveiled on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, showcasing the song’s global resonance.
The leading spot on the platform’s most streamed songs was claimed by country music star Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” followed by Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” in second place, and SZA’s “Kill Bill” securing the third spot.
Other notable entries in the top 10 include Drake and 21 Savage’s “Rich Flex,” SZA’s “Snooze,” Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” Yoasobi’s “Idol,” Chris Brown’s “Under the Influence,” Metro Booming, The Weeknd, and 21 Savage’s “Creepin’,” and Official Hige Dandism’s “Subtitle.”
Securing the 11th position was “Spin Bout U” by Drake and 21 Savage, a track from their collaborative album, “Her Loss.”
Apple Music acknowledged the success of “Calm Down” as a testament to the global embrace of Afrobeats. Interestingly, all the top 10 most streamed songs on Apple Music by Ghanaians in the past 12 months were Nigerian hits. This surge of Afrobeats popularity also extended to Kenya, where the top 10 chart was dominated by Afrobeats songs.
In the global top 100 chart, Tems, another Nigerian singer, made an appearance for her contribution to “Wait For U” by American rapper Future, featuring Drake, securing the 17th position.
