Report ammunition to Police: PRO Urges

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has called on Nigerians to report anyone found in possession of live ammunition to help combat the proliferation of arms in the country. Adejobi made this appeal in a statement shared on his official social media account.

Accompanying a picture of live ammunition, commonly referred to as “èpà” or “groundnuts” on the streets, Adejobi emphasized the potential danger of these items and stressed that they should only be in the possession of statutory security agents. He urged the public to report any individual, excluding authorized security personnel, seen with such live ammunition.

“These are live ammunition, called ‘èpà’ or ‘groundnuts’ in the street. They are deadly, not to be seen with anyone except security agents. Statutory security agents, no other ones. If you see them with any friend or civilian, please expose him or her. We need to collectively curb the proliferation of arms and ammunition in Nigeria,” Adejobi stated.

The statement comes amid efforts by law enforcement agencies to address the challenge of arms proliferation in the country. Recently, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, paraded 34 suspects involved in various crimes, including armed robbery, stealing, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms. The police commissioner highlighted achievements in cracking cases and recovering firearms, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining public safety and security.
