Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, addressed the people of Rivers State during the maiden state banquet at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday, emphasizing that the decisions taken by his administration in the political crisis were aimed at promoting peace in the state. The governor explained that the resignation of the factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, was in the interest of peace.
Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, reached an 8-point resolution on December 18 after a truce meeting with President Bola Tinubu. The resolution directed the withdrawal of lawsuits related to the political crisis and mandated Governor Fubara to re-present the 2024 appropriation bill to the full House.
During his address, Governor Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that the decisions made were not borne out of fear but out of respect for the elders and the interest of the people. He urged the citizens to embrace peace, emphasizing that the intention of his administration is for the development of the state.
Fubara stated, “Every decision that we have taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders. I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our interest but for the development of the state.”
The governor emphasized that his administration is determined to leave a legacy of unity and development in the state, and he encouraged the people to be apostles of peace, truth, and justice for the state to continue on a trajectory of greatness.
