Following the police’s quest to find the killers of SP Bako Angbashim, the murdered Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Police Station, residents of Odumude community in Rivers State’s Ahoada East Local Government Area have fled the area.
The body of the deceased DPO was found on Saturday in the hamlet of Odumude, according to a statement from Rivers State’s police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe Koko, the state’s management team, and tactical units.
Six individuals were detained during the operation, according to Koko, while a locally made firearm and several charms were among the things confiscated.
The suspects and the confiscated property, according to Koko, are being questioned at the State CID in Port Harcourt while being held in police custody.
The community, according to her, has been abandoned by the locals as a result of the manhunt.
As stated by her, the division now has a new DPO named SP Zuokumor Richard.
“He is backed up by a third of a Mopol 19, 56 unit, half of a Mopol 48 unit, and tactical teams. He is responsible for conducting a thorough search of the area, apprehending those guilty for the DPO’s death, recovering the body, and finding any operable weapons that may have been used. While the inquiry is continuing, this operation will continue” she said.
Siminalayi Fubari, the governor of Rivers State, has tasked the state’s security agencies with finding SP Bako Angbashim’s killers.
At a press conference held on Sunday at Government House in Port Harcourt shortly after an emergency security council meeting, Governor Fubara referred to the incident as tragic and brutal.
He expressed his sympathy to the Nigerian Police and the grieving family of the murdered officer and threatened to make Rivers State a dangerous place for criminal activity.
The governor declared, “As a government, we will not rest until whoever is accountable for this act is brought to book.”
