Drama unfolded at the Edo State Government House as security personnel prevented Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu from approaching Governor Godwin Obaseki during a public event. The incident occurred during the Interdenominational Thanksgiving Church Service commemorating Edo’s 32nd year anniversary. Viral photos show Obaseki seated with his wife while security aides blocked Shaibu’s access.
This situation arises from recent tensions between Shaibu and Obaseki, attributed to Shaibu’s rumored 2024 gubernatorial aspirations after his return from vacation in the United States.
Responding to the incident, Shaibu assured his unwavering loyalty to Obaseki, emphasizing that his ambition doesn’t undermine his loyalty. He referred to Obaseki as his elder brother and boss, refraining from discussing any contentious issues surrounding their relationship.
In defense of Obaseki, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sylvester Okungbowa, stated that the Governor was unaware of the security personnel’s actions. He clarified that the security aides were performing their duties to safeguard the governor during the public event.
