Senate Urges Federal Government to Immortalize Late Monarch of Ebiraland

The Senate has called upon the Federal Government to honor the memory of the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Abdulralman Ibrahim, by renaming the Federal College of Education in Okene after him. In addition, the Senate observed a minute of silence in respect of the late monarch and resolved to send a condolence letter to express sympathy to the people of Ebiraland.

The resolutions came following the Senate’s consideration and adoption of a motion titled “Demise of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Abdulralman Ado Ibrahim (7 February 1929 – 29 October 2023),” sponsored by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In an emotional presentation, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan highlighted the shock and sorrow felt by the Senate over the passing of the late monarch on October 29, 2023, in Abuja at the age of 94. She recounted the notable milestones in his life, including his educational achievements and his journey from a successful businessman to becoming the third Ohinoyi of Ebiraland in 1997.

The motion emphasized Dr. Ado Ibrahim’s role as a bridge-builder, peacemaker, and social scientist who promoted unity and reconciliation within the Ebira community, even in the face of political conflicts. It acknowledged his vast business empire and philanthropic endeavors, which provided employment opportunities for numerous Nigerians.

Senators expressed their condolences and recognized Dr. Ado Ibrahim’s contributions to both his people and humanity. They agreed to the motion’s prayers and concluded the session by observing a minute of silence in his honor. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, conducted a voice vote to affirm the adoption of the motion’s recommendations.
