Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has raised concerns about a lack of visible evidence for projects reported as completed in Abuja. She stated that these projects, which were intended to benefit residents, appear only on paper, with no traceable progress or outcomes. Kingibe voiced her concerns during a recent Senate Committee meeting, where she questioned why these so-called completed projects had been hidden from her oversight, despite repeated requests for information.
The Labour Party Senator stressed the need for accountability, calling on officials to provide transparency on the reported projects. According to her, public officers should be accountable to the people, and it’s critical to know who managed and approved these projects. Kingibe emphasized that such clarity is essential, especially when projects in areas like road construction, healthcare, and infrastructure remain unverified.
Kingibe specifically demanded closer scrutiny of the Director General of the Niger Basin Development Authority, responsible for many of these projects. She argued that Nigeria deserves a transparent system where leaders are accountable, urging a higher standard in public project management to build trust and deliver genuine development to citizens.
