Septuagenarian Man Arrested For Drug Trafficking in Kano

In Kano State, agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have detained Ado Mai Unguwa, a septuagenarian, on drug trafficking charges.
In a statement released on Sunday, agency spokesman Femi Babafemi said the suspect was taken into custody on Saturday, September 30, in Dindere village, Tofa LGA, along with 143.2kg of hemp.

He claimed that in Enugu State, workers discovered 110.6kg of hemp in a store in the Aria New Market on the same day.

In the previous week, interdiction operations that resulted in the seizure of four tonnes of illegal narcotics also resulted in the arrest of a drug kingpin who was wanted for attempting to ship unlawful drug consignments to the United Kingdom (UK).

“Obiorah Chigozie Samuel has been on the agency’s wanted list since September 15, 2023, when a shipment of 1.500 kg of skunk concealed in flour bound for London, UK, was stopped at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, and his freight agent, Nworah Adaugo Precious, was detained,” said Babafemi.

Obiorah, who was certain that the 1.500kg shipment had been accepted, “walked into the dragnet of the agency on Thursday, September 28th, when he personally took another shipment of 2.00kg that was hidden in cartons to the airport for export to the UK.

“In his interview, Obiorah claimed that before getting involved in the illicit drug trade, he was a shoe salesman in Lagos.”
Meanwhile, Amafan Fattison (28), the driver, was detained by agents from the FCT Command of the agency on Friday, September 29th, as they intercepted a container truck with the registration number BD G41 XM traveling from Lagos to Kano in Gwagwalada with 1,188kg of hemp concealed beneath toothpaste cartons.
