The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued President Bola Tinubu for suspending Rivers State’s elected leaders after declaring a state of emergency. The group argues that removing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and lawmakers is unconstitutional.
The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, also challenges the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the state’s sole administrator. SERAP insists that Tinubu’s actions violate democratic rights and demands that the suspension be reversed.
Lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, representing the plaintiffs, says the President did not follow due process. The group is asking the court to stop Ibas from acting as administrator and reinstate the elected officials. A hearing date is yet to be set.
