SERAP Sues Tinubu Over Missing ₦57 Billion

SERAP has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over alleged mismanagement of over ₦57 billion in public funds by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in 2021. The suit demands a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved, citing irregularities flagged by the Auditor-General’s 2021 report. Missing funds include ₦54 billion for N-Power stipends and ₦2.6 billion for a school feeding program.

Additional flagged payments include ₦78 million for a Covid-19 survey, ₦39.5 million in donations, and ₦400 million for monitor stipends. SERAP’s lawyers highlighted broader concerns of systemic corruption, citing discrepancies involving ₦729 billion and improper payments of ₦287 million to contractors. They stressed the importance of accountability to tackle Nigeria’s budget and debt issues.

SERAP called for action to ensure justice and restitution for Nigerians impacted by the misuse of public funds. The Federal High Court in Lagos is yet to set a hearing date for the case.
