On Wednesday, the Esu Karu of Karu, Nassarawa State, Luka Payan, and security personnel cautioned locals to refrain from “jungle justice” and from enforcing their own laws.
In response to the recent odd story of stolen genitalia, Panya made this statement during a meeting with security personnel, traditional leaders, community, religious, motorbike, and tricycle leaders.
He claimed that events involving stolen genitalia had occurred recently in the areas of Karu, Masaka, Ado, New Nyanya, and most recently in Sharp Corner, where the suspect and his vehicle were set on fire.
He emphasized that it was his responsibility to safeguard the safety of his followers since maintaining the peace and growth of the community is fundamental to effective leadership.
“We have a responsibility to communicate with our people so that we can manage the issue of stolen genitalia and avoid using the law as a weapon.
“Please spread the word to your constituents, especially the chairman of the motorcycle/tricycle riders association,” I implore every congressman.
No society is crime-free, but there are methods to deal with these issues through security agencies rather than using jungle justice because everybody can be impacted, the Esu added.
Security agent Prince Jatau appealed for sensitization of the rural population in his participation.
Jatau issued a warning that the community would no longer tolerate any form of jungle justice.
He highlighted his concerns that, given the sensitive nature of Karu and its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, the current situation would worsen and lead to religious or ethnic problems.
Jatau warned the populace against raising unfounded alarms since anyone observed at the scene of the application of jungle justice will also be charged in court.
Similar to this, Francis Obigwa, the Police Area Commander in charge of Karu, claimed that the problem of purportedly stolen genitalia, which had been shown to be false medically, was getting out of hand.
Obigwa claims that arrests are still being made in connection with the crime, and that both the perpetrator and the victims will face legal charges.
According to him, some people are now taking advantage of the current trend to perpetrate all kinds of crimes, and the police are prepared to deal with these offenders.
In the meantime, the Esu and the security guards had received assurances from the Chairman of the Motorcycle/Tricycle Riders Association, Bahago Na’Allah, that the organization was trying to see to it that its members behaved in an orderly manner by refraining from acting against the law.
