Desire Oparanozie, the accomplished striker of the Super Falcons, has extended her apologies to the Nigerian people for her missed penalty during the FIFA Women’s World Cup clash against England in Australia and New Zealand.
The recent round of 16 match ended in Nigeria’s exit from the tournament after a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to the Three Lionesses. Oparanozie, Nigeria’s initial penalty taker, missed her mark as the ball went wide. The decisive penalty was converted by England’s Chloe Kelly.
Expressing her regret on Twitter, Oparanozie shared her disappointment over the missed opportunity. She acknowledged her part in the defeat and offered a sincere apology, saying, “A sad day indeed! It’s truly disappointing to lose in penalties, and even more so to have missed mine. For this, I extend my heartfelt apologies.”
