Senator Peter Nwaoboshi representing Delta North Senatorial district has had his conviction and sentence overturned by the Supreme Court. The senator, who was serving a seven-year sentence for fraud and money laundering, is currently held in Ikoyi correctional facility in Lagos state.
In a split decision of four-to-one, the apex court ordered his immediate release from prison, along with the two companies, Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd, who were also charged alongside him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC had accused Senator Nwaoboshi and his companies of illegally acquiring Guinea House, a property on Marine Road in Apapa, Lagos, which was valued at N805 million and claimed to belong to the Delta State Government.
