Third Mainland Bridge Repairs Begins Jan 9

In a recent statement, the Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to close the Third Mainland Bridge on Tuesday, January 9, for essential repair works. This decision comes after the Third Mainland , initially closed to traffic in November 2023, was temporarily reopened on December 21 to alleviate congestion during the Yuletide season.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, explained that the upcoming closure is crucial for the continuation of repair efforts by the Federal Ministry of Works on specific sections of the Third Mainland . The Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele section will be closed to facilitate comprehensive repairs.

Osiyemi highlighted that the repair initiative, initiated in November 2023, initially focused on fixing the ramps. However, the upcoming closure aims to address the remaining sections of the bridge that require attention.

To minimize inconvenience for commuters, the Commissioner outlined the following schedule: From 12 am to 12 noon, the bridge will be accessible for Mainland-bound Island travelers, with Island-to-Mainland travelers advised to use Eko Bridge. Conversely, from 12 noon to 12 am, the bridge will be open for motorists traveling from the Island to the Mainland, while those heading from the Mainland to the Island are recommended to use Eko Bridg

The selected timings align with peak traffic periods to alleviate travel stress. Osiyemi urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management officials during the closure and expressed gratitude for their understanding and cooperation in efforts to maintain road safety.

The Lagos State Government encourages collaboration from the public in ensuring a smooth implementation of these repair activities.
