Nigerian comedian Seyi Law isn’t holding back as he directs sharp criticism towards President Bola Tinubu regarding the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) recent cybersecurity levy directive.
According to a report by Naija News, CBN’s directive mandates a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions across various financial institutions. This move, aligned with amendments to the Cybercrime Act of 2024, aims to bolster cybersecurity measures in the country.
Expressing his discontent via social media, Seyi Law slammed the levy as punitive, fearing its potential to deter banking transactions. He questioned Tinubu’s stance on critical issues such as the implementation of the minimum wage and the performance of ministers in his cabinet.
In his post, Seyi Law lamented the lack of clarity from government agencies, highlighting discrepancies in the levy’s percentage and its impact on Nigerians. He urged the CBN to reconsider the levy, emphasizing the strain it places on ordinary citizens.
Stamping his disapproval on the levy and demanding relief for the common man, Seyi Law called on the government to prioritize announcing and enforcing the new minimum wage. He didn’t mince words in calling out ministers whom he deemed as underperforming.
Unapologetically critical, Seyi Law dismissed the notion that supporting a political figure equates to blind acceptance of all policies, stressing the need for constructive criticism. With a poignant reminder that many Nigerians struggle to make ends meet, he underscored the importance of policies that alleviate rather than exacerbate financial burdens.
In a country grappling with economic challenges, Seyi Law’s outspoken stance resonates with many, urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of their citizens above all else.
