Three kidnapped people were freed by Anambra Police Command officers who raided an insurgent camp at Ogbunka in the state’s Orumba South Local Government Area. They also recovered different weapons and ammunition, including stolen goods.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.
A Catholic priest was among the recovered abducted people, according to Ikenga, who also claimed three suspects had been detained. The victims were all taken this month, he added.
He said that the current wave of kidnappings in Orumba North and South, as well as other areas of Aguata LGAs were the result of the three-person gang.
He stated, “On Friday, in a well-coordinated operation, a police-led Forward Operating Base comprised of military and paramilitary services stationed in Aguata and assisted by police Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu raided the insurgents camp in Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA.
“Three kidnapped people, including a reverend father, were unharmed when they were rescued. Three pump-action rifles and nine cars were found. The police detained three suspects.
The Biafra flag, many handsets, flash drives, and sim cards that will support a thorough investigation and prosecution were also found.The current wave of kidnappings in Orumba North and South, as well as other areas of Aguata LGAs, have been committed by this gang. All of the victims who were taken this month.
He continued by saying that months of rigorous and careful intelligence gathering and investigation had led to the discovery of the criminal hideout and the raid on the terrorists’ camp.
He went on to say that the operation was ordered and managed by CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, who thanked the personnel and vigilante men participating for their professionalism in making sure no lives were lost.
“Mr. Governor has commended the operatives and pledged to continue supporting all services involved in joint security operations across the state,” the author continued.
