Tinubu Asks UN for Support Against Terrorism

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has called on the United Nations to provide more practical support to Nigeria in its fight against terrorism. During a meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov, President Tinubu acknowledged the UN’s efforts but urged them to do more, particularly in terms of physical support.

Terrorism has had a significant impact on Nigeria, reversing developmental gains and contributing to instability in various regions. President Tinubu stressed that addressing terrorism effectively is crucial for the country’s democracy and overall development.

The President highlighted that tackling terrorism requires a comprehensive approach, addressing not only the “where, how, and when” but also the underlying conditions that promote insurgency, such as poverty and injustice. He urged the UN to collaborate more closely with Nigeria in combating these challenges.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to addressing the root causes of terrorism, including investments in education and social security.

President Tinubu’s call for increased UN support reflects the ongoing struggle against terrorism in Nigeria and the need for international collaboration to address this complex issue effectively.
