The Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has described the recent unveiling of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses as a transformative step for Nigeria’s transport sector. During a ceremony at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu highlighted that these buses, acquired from Innoson Motors, would significantly reduce the nation’s petrol consumption, particularly since commercial vehicles account for 80% of it.
President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of utilizing natural gas for transportation, noting that the introduction of these buses would help alleviate the transportation challenges faced by many Nigerians. DAPPMAN Chairman Winifred Akpani praised the buses as a game changer, expressing pride in their local production and their potential to reduce transportation costs.
Additionally, the NNPC Foundation contributed 10 of the 30 buses, aligning with their commitment to clean energy and environmental sustainability. The Managing Director, Emmanuella Arukwe, pointed out that using CNG not only makes transportation more affordable but also supports a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective public transport system.
