The National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, convened in Kano, made a significant decision on Tuesday regarding the election petition filed by Muhammad Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ganduje had challenged the victory of Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, who ran on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), in the Rimin Gado/Dawakin Tofa/Tofa Federal House of Representatives Election held on March 25, 2023.
In a ruling by the three-member Panel of Judges, the petition was dismissed on the grounds of lacking merit. The judges emphasized that the petitioner failed to provide substantial evidence to substantiate the allegations made concerning the conduct of the elections.
As a consequence of this decision, the Tribunal imposed a fine of N200,000 against the petitioner, to be paid individually to the respondents.
Further details on this matter are expected to be provided in due course.
