Former U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) after it issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The ICC accused them of war crimes in Gaza, alongside a senior Hamas commander. The court claims Netanyahu and Gallant ordered attacks on civilians between October 2023 and May 2024.
Trump’s executive order enforces financial and visa restrictions on those assisting the ICC’s investigations involving U.S. citizens. The White House criticized the court’s decision, calling it a false comparison between Israel and Hamas. The U.S. and Israel do not recognize the ICC’s authority.
The move came as Netanyahu visited Washington, showing continued U.S. support for Israel. The Trump administration argued the ICC’s actions set a dangerous precedent that could threaten U.S. officials and national security.
