Two men arrested for stealing goods worth 720,000 in Ekiti

Two people, Emmanuel Chukwuebuka (23) and Bayode Olufemi (28) were charged with stealing on Tuesday by the Nigeria Police Force’s Ekiti State Command in an Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court.

The defendants were charged with stealing N720,000 worth of generators and building materials.

Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, testified in court that the two defendants did plan to commit a felony—specifically, stealing—on November 12 at around 11 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi claimed that the defendants “did steal white cement, cement, 70 kg of filler, and Tiger generator worth N720,000 property of Durojaye Emmanuel on the same date, time, and place within the magistratorial district.”

The police prosecutor stated, “The offense committed is punishable under sections 421 and 302 (1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.”

Adunni Olanipekun, the defendants’ attorney, begged the judge to set bail for her clients so that they might have a fair trial and assured the court that they would not breach it. She promised to provide a reliable surety.

The accused were granted bail of N80,000 with one surety each by Magistrate Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi, who also postponed the case to January 17, 2024.
