Victor Attah Warns – Nigeria Is Not Ready for 2027 Election

Former Akwa Ibom Governor, Obong Victor Attah, has warned that Nigeria is not ready for the 2027 elections due to rising tensions and unresolved national issues. Speaking at the commissioning of a ₦102 million asphalt road in Ilorin, Kwara State, he stressed that the country must first address its constitutional challenges before heading to the polls.

Attah criticized the current system, stating that Nigeria lacks a unified national vision and shared values. He argued that without a new, people-driven constitution based on equity and justice, elections would only deepen divisions. He also noted that while it took seven years to draft Nigeria’s pre-independence constitution, a new one could be completed in six months if there is political will.

He cautioned that holding elections amid widespread concerns about INEC, insecurity, and governance failures could lead to chaos. Attah urged leaders to take immediate action, warning that without meaningful reforms, the 2027 elections could further destabilize the nation.
