The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its support for former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race. This endorsement follows Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s statement that he would step aside from his own presidential ambitions if Jonathan decides to run.
PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, highlighted that Jonathan’s experience and leadership qualities make him the ideal candidate to lead Nigeria again. Abdullahi praised Jonathan’s previous tenure, citing his commitment to democratic principles, such as conceding defeat in 2015 before the official results were fully counted.
Addressing concerns about Atiku Abubakar’s reaction to this potential candidacy, Abdullahi emphasized that the decision on the party’s 2027 candidate would not be solely determined by Atiku, but by the collective will of the PDP, underlining the party’s need for a unifying and experienced leader like Jonathan.
