Popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi, and her husband, Soji, walked away from a surprise birthday performance for Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin — and now we know why. According to filmmaker Oreofe Williams, who helped arrange the event, the Alabis were not told who they were performing for until they got to the venue.
Williams explained that a filmmaker had contacted him to book Tope Alabi for a “surprise” birthday show, but never revealed it was for Lizzy. The Alabis agreed to perform at a much lower price of ₦2.5 million instead of the usual ₦8 million because of Williams’ plea. But when they arrived and discovered it was for Lizzy Anjorin, they felt deceived and chose to leave, returning the full amount immediately.

Williams said the problem wasn’t about religion or past issues, but about feeling tricked. “If you want someone to surprise a celebrant, you shouldn’t hide the celebrant’s name,” he said. He also clarified that the amount paid was ₦2.5 million, not the ₦4 million reported online.
