Wike fuels FCT insecurity

In an exclusive interview with Findwhosabi News, prominent human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, shared his insights on the escalating security crisis and the ongoing anti-corruption campaign in Nigeria. Adeyanju expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation and criticized Wike and the current administration and its predecessor.

Security Situation: An Inherited Challenge

Adeyanju attributed the current security challenges to an inherited problem from the Bola Tinubu administration. He acknowledged that insecurity was initially confined to certain regions under President Muhammadu Buhari’s assumption of office in 2015. However, he argued that insecurity has since spread across the entire nation under Buhari’s watch.

He pointed out that states like Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Benue, Plateau, Kogi, and Nasarawa, as well as the entire South-West, South-East, and South-South, have become hotspots for insecurity and kidnappings. Adeyanju asserted that the government’s failure and lack of political will have fueled the crisis.

Anti-Corruption Efforts: Mixed Opinions on Tinubu’s Actions

Regarding the fight against corruption, Adeyanju cautiously commended President Bola Tinubu for the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, over alleged corruption. However, he argued that the fight against corruption must be comprehensive, extending to all ministries and agencies. Adeyanju urged the government to address corruption holistically for effective results.

FCT Insecurity: Blame on Political Distractions

Adeyanju criticized the worsening security situation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), blaming Minister Nyesom Wike for the lack of focus on security matters. He accused Wike of being preoccupied with political issues in Rivers State, contributing to the decay in the FCT. Adeyanju highlighted the failure of intelligence gathering and expressed dissatisfaction with the role of the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) in addressing security challenges.

Wike’s Role in FCT: A Disappointing Turn of Events

While initially supportive of Wike’s appointment as FCT minister, Adeyanju expressed disappointment with Wike’s performance. He emphasized Wike’s distraction with political battles in Rivers State as a significant factor contributing to the current state of the FCT. Adeyanju urged Wike to refocus on his ministerial duties and prioritize the security and administration of the FCT.

Cabinet Reshuffle and Subsidy Removal: Adeyanju’s Critique

Adeyanju condemned the choice of Abubakar Badaru and Bello Matawalle as Minister of Defence and Minister of State for Defence, respectively, and called for their redeployment. He expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the subsidy removal, predicting that allocated funds would benefit the elite rather than addressing the intended challenge.

Dangote Refinery Skepticism

Adeyanju expressed skepticism about the functionality of the Dangote Refinery, dismissing it as mere propaganda. He challenged the government to prove the refinery’s effectiveness by reducing fuel prices significantly.

In conclusion, Adeyanju underscored the need for a holistic approach to address the country’s security challenges and combat corruption effectively.
