The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom , has affirmed his support for Siminalayi Fubara as the governor of Rivers State, emphasizing that the decision was made in the interest of the state’s unity. Speaking at a New Year luncheon in his country home, Nyesom disclosed that he, along with other state leaders, worked towards Fubara’s emergence as governor to foster cohesion.
Wike recounted the effort to ensure Fubara’s candidacy, stating that he urged other contenders, including former Rivers PDP Chairman Felix Obuah, to step down for a governor from the riverine area. The minister explained how he persuaded Obuah to become the Director-General for the campaign, leading to Fubara’s victory. Wike highlighted the importance of unity in Rivers State and the need to avoid monopolizing power.

He further addressed political dynamics, including his visit to the National Vice Chairman of the APC, South-South, Chief Victor Giadom, where he stressed the importance of supporting President Buhari for the nation’s progress. Wike encouraged cooperation across party lines, emphasizing that issues of betrayal and politics are intertwined.

Wike shared insights gained from President Tinubu, noting that politics and betrayal go hand in hand. He recounted experiences, including Governor Godwin Obaseki’s alleged betrayal, and urged political players to prepare for such challenges.

The minister pledged commitment to implementing the peace agreement brokered by Tinubu in Rivers State, urging parties to comply without conditions. Wike also expressed his unwavering obedience to President Buhari’s directives for peace in the state.

In addressing the political crisis in Rivers, Wike criticized those attempting to remove the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, vowing to confront challenges head-on and guide the state towards progress. He concluded by urging leaders to make a positive impact on people’s lives and lead by example.
