Youths Defy Jigawa Curfew Amid Hunger Protests

Despite a 24-hour curfew enforced by the Jigawa state government, numerous young individuals have taken to the streets in various areas of Dutse, the state capital. The curfew was declared following significant violence and damage during the initial day of the nationwide hunger protest.

Security forces are currently engaged in confrontations with demonstrators in the Zai region. A local resident reported that the youths are resisting efforts to disperse them, including the use of teargas.

In Shuwarin, located on the outskirts of Dutse, young protesters have gathered for a second consecutive day, facing opposition from security forces as they attempt to enter central areas. Numerous youths, including minors, have reportedly been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Gumel town remains relatively peaceful, with security personnel blocking main roads to prevent assemblies. Communication network issues have hindered updates from other locations such as Hadejia, Birnin Kudu, Jahun, and Kazaure.
