55 kidnapped as bandits attack Katsina wedding train

55 wedding guests who were allegedly bringing a bride home along Damari Town in Katsina State’s Sabuwa Local Government Area were kidnapped by suspected bandits.

On Friday, a resident confirmed to reporters over the phone that the incident occurred at 9 p.m. on Thursday.

The insider also told reporters that three local security volunteers died in the hastily orchestrated rescue operation.

“The majority of the people the hoodlums targeted and abducted were already crowded and riding in an open van known as a canter vehicle.

“The victims were initially over 70, mostly friends to the bride, in which several others escaped after jumping off the moving canter van when the terrorists hijacked the van,” stated the official.

The media said that the Sabuwa neighborhood is beset by security issues.
The local administration has been coping with the presence of bandits and their accomplices, many of whom are informants.
Alhaji Basiru Musa, Chairman of Dandume Local Government Area, has corroborated the claim.
While some unconfirmed reports indicate that a few kidnapped ladies were able to escape, the chairman vowed to verify and provide updates.

He emphasized that, while the women were from Dandume, the bandits intercepted them on their way from Sabuwa Local Government Area at 9 p.m.

Bandits are wreaking havoc in Katsina State’s Sabuwa and Dandume local government districts.
In a related event around the same time, gunmen from the Siddi forest were confirmed to have invaded Tashar Nadaya near the Gazari district boundary in Sabuwa LG.

The crooks were reported to have slain a commercial motorbike rider and stolen his bike.

It was also reported that they opened fire on a group of four people and confiscated their motorcycles.
