POS Operators Gets 200-Metre Ban Nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force has directed Point of Sale (POS) operators across the country to remain at least 200 metres away from police stations and formations.

According to an internal police wireless message reportedly issued by the Inspector-General of Police, the order followed growing allegations linking some POS operators to corrupt practices and extortion involving police personnel.

The police said the situation was affecting ongoing reform efforts aimed at improving transparency and professionalism within the force.

The directive warned that none of these operator should operate within a 200-metre radius of any police formation nationwide. Senior police officers and heads of formations were also instructed to ensure full compliance with the order.

The development comes amid longstanding public complaints that some officers allegedly use nearby POS operators to collect money from civilians at checkpoints and police facilities.
