Labour Party Fixes May 23 for Presidential Primary

The Labour Party, led by Esther Nenadi Usman, has scheduled May 23, 2026, for its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections. The decision was reached during a National Executive Council meeting held in Abuja, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in attendance.

According to the party’s timetable, its membership register will be submitted to INEC on April 15, while primaries for governorship and legislative positions are set for May 15. The party also outlined key activities, including ward, local government, and state congresses, as well as a national convention scheduled for April 11, 2026.

The council further addressed internal challenges, approving the suspension of several members over alleged misconduct and anti-party activities. It also endorsed ongoing efforts to update the party’s membership register and advised members to resolve disputes through internal mechanisms to maintain unity ahead of the elections.
