President Bola Tinubu has said that powerful individuals affected by his economic reforms are allegedly unhappy and wishing him dead over the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange changes.
Bola Tinubu made the remark on Wednesday during the launch of “The NADECO Story” in Lagos.
He was represented at the event by former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba.
According to Osoba, the President said the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rates disrupted interests that had benefited from the old system.
He added that some groups involved in forex round-tripping and subsidy-related gains were resisting the reforms.
Osoba said the President is aware of alleged attempts to disrupt peace in the country due to the reforms.
Tinubu maintained that despite opposition, his administration will continue implementing the economic policies.
The President introduced fuel subsidy removal in 2023 and later unified the foreign exchange market as part of broader reforms.
While the government insists the policies are necessary, many Nigerians have expressed concerns over rising inflation and cost of living.
Osoba also said Tinubu identified economy and security as key challenges facing his administration.
He added that insecurity is gradually spreading into the South-West region.
