Former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to focus on a new youth-centered initiative. His decision is tied to his role as leader of the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), an NGO aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance among Northern youth. The organization was inaugurated at Arewa House, Kaduna, in late 2024.
Bafarawa officially submitted his resignation letter to PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagun, on January 8, 2025, and it was acknowledged on January 13. In his letter, he emphasized that the move was to avoid conflicts of interest between his political affiliation and his leadership of NSYEI. “I will now focus my attention on creating awareness for youth entrepreneurship and empowerment, reducing redundancy, and fostering self-reliance,” he explained.
The former governor expressed gratitude for his time with the PDP, appreciating the opportunity to contribute to its growth. A key figure in the party, Bafarawa played a crucial role in Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s 2019 re-election campaign. While stepping back from politics, his focus on empowering the next generation highlights his enduring commitment to societal development.
