“Abia Woman Nabbed for Stealing Friend’s Newborn Baby”

A 28-year-old woman, Adaeze Lawrence, has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly stealing her friend’s one-month-and-two-days-old baby boy. The suspect gained the trust of the baby’s mother by posing as a friend. She had a connection to the baby’s family through the elder sister of the baby’s mother, with whom she was schoolmates.

The suspect reportedly requested to celebrate the baby’s birth and absconded with the child during the celebration. The baby’s mother reported the incident to the police, who subsequently arrested the suspect in her hideout.

During interrogation, the suspect initially denied the crime, claiming that the baby was hers. However, a medical examination disproved her claim, leading to her confession. The baby’s biological mother identified the child, confirming the abduction.

The Abia State Police Command has advised the public to exercise caution and maintain constant supervision of their children, especially in public places, to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

The suspect is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
