About Now :Appeal Court Removes Elumelu, Declares Okolie Winner”

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has issued a verdict on Thursday, overturning the judgment of the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State. In its ruling, the court has upheld the candidacy of Mr. Ngozi Okolie, who ran under the Labour Party, as the legitimately elected legislator.

In a previous report from February, it was noted that Ngozi Okolie, representing the Labour Party, secured a total of 53,879 votes, surpassing the incumbent minority leader, Elumelu, of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 33,456 votes. Additionally, Tony Nwaake received 11,712 votes in the election.

However, in July, the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State, had declared Ndudi Elumelu of the PDP as the victor of the 2023 House of Representatives election for the same constituency.

The recent ruling by the Court of Appeal has now affirmed Ngozi Okolie as the rightful winner of the election, overturning the previous tribunal’s decision.
