Adelabu Increases Electricity by 1,000MW in One Year

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, announced that his reforms have increased the national grid’s capacity by more than 1,000MW in less than a year. During an interview on Fresh FM’s ‘Political Circuit’ program, Adelabu revealed that Nigeria’s electricity generation rose from 4,000MW to 5,155MW as of August 8, 2024. He aims to reach 6,000MW by the end of the year with continued support from the Federal Government.

Adelabu also disclosed that he has received threats from unknown individuals opposing the progress in the power sector. He claimed that a cartel is behind these acts of sabotage, including the destruction of power transmission substations and power lines. Despite these challenges, Adelabu expressed determination to push forward with his reforms.

The minister urged Nigerians to pay their energy bills, emphasizing that the cost of grid electricity is still more affordable than running generators. He stressed that regular payment is essential for the continuity and sustainability of the power sector’s achievements.
