NNPC Blames Petrol Shortage on Delivery Problems

The ongoing petrol shortage in Nigeria, now in its sixth week, has been attributed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to distribution challenges. This is the third major fuel scarcity of 2024, which began in early July. The NNPCL initially cited logistics issues caused by adverse weather conditions, which disrupted the transfer of petrol from ships to jetties and affected the supply chain.

As the crisis continues, the NNPCL released a statement expressing regret over the situation and acknowledged fuel supply “tightness” in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory. The company assured the public that efforts are being made to resolve the issue and urged motorists to avoid panic buying. Despite these assurances, independent marketers have raised pump prices to ₦950 per liter, up from ₦720 per liter before the shortage began.
