Doyin Odebowale, the former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy to the late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has clarified the reasons behind his resignation following the governor’s demise. Odebowale, along with other aides, resigned in the wake of Akeredolu’s death.
Odebowale explained that his decision to resign was rooted in his inability to maintain the same level of commitment without Akeredolu’s support. He emphasized the deep bond he shared with the late governor, spanning over 30 years, during which he served as a special adviser. Despite his loyalty, he asserted that he had no issues with the newly-sworn-in governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
He stated, “I can’t be as committed as I was with Akeredolu because I got all his support. It was not politicking. He gave me the wings to fly. He was my brother like a family.”
Responding to an allegation of assault against a pregnant woman, Odebowale dismissed it as fabricated and motivated by jealousy. He asserted that he would never engage in such behavior and explained the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing that it was orchestrated by those who felt threatened by his influence.
The former aide provided details about his activities in the market and the efforts to clear spaces for fumigation and renovation. He also addressed the alleged assault incident, attributing it to a misrepresentation of events and political motives.
Odebowale’s resignation and the subsequent explanations shed light on the complexities surrounding political transitions and interpersonal relationships within government circles. The aftermath of Governor Akeredolu’s passing has seen changes in the political landscape, prompting resignations and realignments among key figures in the administration.
