The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two armed robbery suspects who specialize in robbing victims on the Second Niger Bridge. According to a statement released by the state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrest was made by police officers attached to the Harbour Division who were conducting surveillance patrol on the bridge.
The surveillance patrol team was stationed on the bridge to prevent the theft of expansion joints, but they were alerted to the activities of the robbery gang near the Obosi end of the bridge. The covert police team monitored the gang and arrested two of the gang members while the others fled the scene.
Upon searching the suspects, two daggers and five SIM cards that had been removed from previously stolen phones were recovered. The arrested suspects are aged between 20 and 22 years, with one hailing from Enugu State and the other from Ebonyi State.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the patrol team for their vigilance and courage in confronting the gang. He has directed that the owners of the recovered SIM cards be located to gather evidence for the successful prosecution of the arrested suspects.
The arrest of the armed robbery suspects on the Second Niger Bridge is a significant development in efforts to combat criminal activities in the area and enhance security for commuters.
