APC Chair Urges Patience in Rivers State Reconciliation

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for patience as the national leadership works to reconcile the feuding factions within the party in Rivers State. He made this appeal during a meeting with APC stakeholders from Rivers in Abuja on Thursday.

Ganduje, the former governor of Kano, acknowledged that the party in Rivers State had been plagued by legal disputes, emphasizing the need for a united front. He highlighted the importance of Rivers State in Nigerian politics due to its significant oil reserves and large population, considering it an invaluable asset for any political party.

He stated, “So you can see why we cannot rubbish the state; Rivers as a state in politics is very important. Coincidentally, some of us are conversant with the politics in Rivers.”

The National Chairman traced the origins of the party’s crisis in Rivers back to 2015 and expressed concern over the highly factionalized state of the party. He commended those who worked towards the party’s electoral success in the general elections and described the victory at the national level as a “miracle.”

Acknowledging the confusion within the Rivers chapter of the party, Ganduje called for restraint among members and stressed the need for a calm and organized approach. He emphasized the importance of allowing the party leadership to handle the reconciliation process effectively.

Ganduje stated, “We are focused, we are organized, we work scientifically in politics. And therefore, you give us an enabling environment, give us a chance so that we can put a round peg in a round hole, square peg in a square hole, so that we maintain our dignity as a party.”

He further emphasized the need for unity within the party in Rivers and assured that the APC National Working Committee (NWC) would constitute a leadership team dedicated to reconciling the warring factions for the benefit of its members.

In conclusion, Ganduje urged party members not to exacerbate the situation through overheating and advised against excessive analysis, stating that “too much analysis leads to paralysis.” He called on members to allow the party’s leadership to consult and align the party’s activities with the APC’s constitution to restore order and unity in Rivers State.
