In a recent address to his supporters, the former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, hinted at a significant political move in the state, promising clarity on his political stance before the end of the year 2024. Aregbesola made these remarks during an end-of-the-year thanksgiving event organized by the Omoluabi Caucus in Ilesa, Osun State.
A video capturing Aregbesola’s speech at the event was shared on social media by Lekan Arogundade, revealing the ex-governor’s frustration with the internal dynamics of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
Aregbesola recounted his efforts to unite the APC ahead of the 2022 governorship election, emphasizing that his attempts were thwarted. He disclosed that, in preparation for the election, he met with representatives of the APC’s ‘overall leader’ to discuss the sharing of appointments. However, he claimed that the agreements reached were not honored by the party’s leadership.

Expressing his discontent, Aregbesola revealed that he refrained from participating in the 2022 Osun APC governorship campaign after a leader of the campaign organization stated that those not officially invited need not bother attending.
In his speech, delivered in Yoruba, Aregbesola stated, “I have not said this before. On August 26, 2021, our overall leader told us to meet two of his representatives in Abuja.” He detailed the discussions held during the meeting, highlighting the breakdown of the agreements and the subsequent lack of communication.
Aregbesola criticized the campaign tactics employed against him, alleging a campaign of calumny and blaming tactics by the APC leadership. Despite these challenges, he affirmed his resilience, stating, “We are unperturbed. God will judge each one of us on the role we play in the matter.”
However, he assured his supporters that by the end of 2024, his political trajectory in Osun State would become transparent. “By the grace of God, by this time in 2024, you will know where we are heading. It will be clear to everyone where Osun people are heading,” Aregbesola concluded. As political dynamics unfold, his declaration sets the stage for anticipation and speculation in Osun State politics.
