Buhari Urges Youths: Say No to Drugs

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a cautionary message to Nigerian youths, urging them to avoid the destructive path of hard drugs that could jeopardize their future and potential. Speaking at a one-day dialogue organized by the Katsina Consultative Forum on addressing youth involvement in hard drug consumption, Buhari emphasized the importance of collective efforts in combating the menace.

As the special guest of honour at the event held in Katsina, Buhari pledged his commitment to the campaign against drug abuse and encouraged all Nigerians to actively participate in the ongoing efforts to tackle hard drug consumption in the country.

Buhari emphasized the value of Nigerian youths as essential assets for the nation’s future. He urged them to believe in their abilities, potential, and future, cautioning against allowing drug abuse to derail their aspirations. The former President underscored the shared responsibility of all stakeholders, including leaders and the broader community, in addressing the issue of drug consumption and abuse by the youth.

He stated, “To our leaders, we all have roles to play. We should invest in our youths, provide employment for them and ensure that they are positively engaged. I will not relent in doing this.”

The guest lecturer at the event, Dr. Usman Bugaje, emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to the fight against hard drug consumption, starting at the community level. He characterized the issue as a significant threat to the survival of the country and called for urgent and concerted efforts to address the challenges posed by drug trafficking and consumption.

Alhaji Aminu Danmusa, Chairman of the Katsina Consultative Forum, assured participants that the forum would compile the various suggestions and recommendations from the dialogue. The forum aims to ensure that these insights are presented to relevant stakeholders, including the government, for effective implementation in the fight against drug abuse in Nigeria.
