Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is uncertain about running for president in 2027 against the incumbent, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In an interview set to air today on Untold Stories with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, He stated that his decision would depend on the availability of a strong opposition platform.
Although he recently announced a coalition of opposition leaders to challenge Tinubu, Atiku stressed that unity and a viable political structure must come first. He acknowledged speculation about potential candidates, including Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai, but remained non-committal about his own candidacy, saying, “I don’t know.”

Atiku, who has run for president six times, said Nigeria is in desperate need of experienced and credible leadership. He also agreed with former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the country’s democracy is struggling. Looking ahead, he suggested that a united opposition, similar to the 2014 coalition that led to a successful election, could shape the 2027 race.
