Bandits kill one of seven captives for failing to pay N290m ransom

One of the seven people kidnapped from the Kuduru community in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on December 28, 2023, has been slain by bandits.

In addition, the bandits who kidnapped seven people—among them a pregnant woman—threatened to murder the other hostages if the N290 million ransom is not paid.
According to a community source, the bandits called on Friday to inform people about the killing of Olayinka Ogunyemi, a civil engineer, who was held captive since the captives’ families were unable to provide the N290 million that was requested.

According to the source, they made threats to murder the two men, the pregnant wife, the one and a half-year-old boy, and their brothers.

“They informed us via phone yesterday that Engineer Olayinka Ogunyemi had been killed.” They threatened to kill the others if we failed to bring N290 million.

“None of our individuals have been released despite the fact that we have already paid N23 million and given food and other goods they requested.

Now that they have decided not to kill the two brothers, the pregnant woman and her unborn child, or the two men, we are terrified and powerless.

Because their captors said Nigeria had upset them and they would react, the source stated, “We are appealing to the federal government, the police, and the army to step up efforts to rescue our people.”
He listed the names of the people in custody: Austin Buremo, Hassan Usman, Hassan Faosiya, Bako Azeez, Godwin Rachel Adeoye, and Godwin Dominic.
