Renowned musician Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti recently expressed his belief that the popular reality show “Big Brother Naija” should have taken a different approach by focusing on generating solutions to the challenges facing Nigeria.
During a guest appearance on Spade TV Africa’s interview hosted by Gbenga Aborowa, which centered on Africa’s role within the United Nations, Kuti emphasized that the creators of the annual “Big Brother Naija” program should have oriented it toward addressing Nigeria’s developmental issues.
Kuti pointed out that instead of concentrating on social skills and strategies, the show could have been designed to facilitate discussions on potential solutions to the multitude of challenges in Nigeria. He proposed that viewers should have the opportunity to vote for the most viable solution rather than voting for housemates.
He stated, “Big Brother Naija is the way it is because of the Investment that is put in it. It was designed by certain people to be that way. The people that designed Big Brother could have decided that it would be a show where young people discuss the issue of the country and come up with solutions and other young people and viewers can vote on the best solution.”
The outspoken public figure added that if the show had been structured around development and problem-solving, the investors would be contributing to Nigeria’s growth and progress.
In his own words, “That means that the people going from entertainment to solutions and national development, they’re investing in solutions for national development.”
