Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has renewed his call for the establishment of state police in Nigeria. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George emphasized the urgent need for state police to effectively combat insurgency and insecurity in the country.
George highlighted the difficulty in identifying insurgents who often blend in with normal citizens. He argued that state police, familiar with local communities, could better identify and address criminal activities. “People within their community know the rules and can manage issues more effectively,” he stated.
Citing recommendations from a past constitutional conference, George reiterated that the establishment of state police is not a future need but an immediate necessity. He believes that localized policing would significantly enhance security and aid in distinguishing between ordinary citizens and potential insurgents.
