Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, has criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari for what he alleges to be a significant breakdown in Nigeria’s security architecture during Buhari’s eight years in power. Chidoka pointed to Buhari’s appointments of service chiefs as a key factor contributing to the security challenges faced by the country.
During a televised interview, Chidoka expressed his concerns, stating that the security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated, and the damage caused during Buhari’s tenure will take many years to rectify. He specifically criticized what he sees as Buhari’s lopsided and nepotistic appointments in the security sector.
Chidoka further argued that the top leadership positions in the police, army, and the Department of State Services (DSS) are occupied by individuals he referred to as “unintelligent people,” and that the recruitment process within the security agencies is flawed.
He cited the allocation of the police budget, where a significant portion is allocated to salary payments, leaving little for recruitment and other essential needs, as an example of the challenges within the security sector.
Chidoka’s remarks reflect his concerns about the state of security in Nigeria and his perspective on the causes of the security challenges the country is currently facing. Efforts to reach former President Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, for a response were unsuccessful at the time of the report.
